Notice:
Nearly all needed packages get downloadet only a few get the error (404 Not Found [IP: 127.0.0.1 8082]).
I have two network adapters, one on the board and one in a PCI-e slot because i could not get the onboard network adapter running. after the instalation comes the error that the device can’t get reset, so i cange the strict reset option in the sys-net device settings. Maybe (i am not an expert) somthing there get messed up, but in the past all worked fine. I also run Qubes Os on my Laptop and there (with the same Qubes Os version) everything is working fine.

I am sorry if i am just to stupid to see the problem.

First, does this happen only when installing KDE packages (I believe kate relies on having the KDE environment)?

I’m having a similar problem, except I’m not sure if I’m able to install any packages. What is a simple package I can test that you were able to successfully download and install?

For your “device can’t be reset” error, shut down sys-net or whatever it is called on your system, then right click it → Qube Settings → Devices → Configure strict reset for PCI devices → highlight the one that gave the problem → OK

Yes, kate is from KDE, but should still work at least to download, and it did before. I tryed to install npm with the same error. I tested to install gnome-calculator and it worked.

I have only now realized that mostly the vlc libs and other stuff can’t get downloaded, do you have the same error with the vlc stuff ?

“Qube Settings → Devices → Configure strict reset for PCI devices → highlight the one that gave the problem → OK” thanks you :-), i have done this before but the onboard network adapter just don’t work so an another network adapter in a PCI-e slot. But this is not my major problem it was just an idea what causes the download problem.

ok, i have on another Tower PC [with debian] an VM with an old debian 10 system. I tryed to install there kate, npm, vlc too and the same error came up. After i run apt-get update it successfully installed kate, npm, vlc but here in the Template-VM even after the apt-get update it still don’t work.

did apt-get update give errors? can you post them? Mine said “reading from proxy failed” for every attempt. This was back when my internet was working, but it has since quit, otherwise I would post the full message.

No Errors but somthing interesting:

N: Repository 'https://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease' changed its 'Version' value from '10.7' to '10.11'
E: Repository 'https://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease' changed its 'Suite' value from 'stable' to 'oldstable'
N: This must be accepted explicitly before updates for this repository can be applied. See apt-secure(8) manpage for details.
E: Repository 'https://deb.debian.org/debian-security buster/updates InRelease' changed its 'Suite' value from 'stable' to 'oldstable'
N: This must be accepted explicitly before updates for this repository can be applied. See apt-secure(8) manpage for details.

These messages also cam when i updated my other “stand-alone” debian 10 system but only after the first “apt-get update”, in the Template-VM it comes every time after i executed the command, as if he would not save it.

The “reading from proxy failed” i get after a lot of testing in my Template-VM before i reinstalled it (so “sudo qubes-dom0-update --action=reinstall qubes-template-debian-10” in dom0 but it will compleatly reset the Template-VM debian 10 and there is maybe a better solution i don’t know).

so you need to change stable to oldstable in /etc/apt/sources.list
like

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster main

to

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian oldstable main

oldstable

Don’t … just use apt-get update --allow-releaseinfo-change

Isn’t there a possible security issue with:

, whereas explicitly specifying oldstable keeps the change to just the one you know should happen?

Regardless of security issues, neither proposed solution works for me. I still get the attached error(s).

Reading from proxy failed

i still don’t know how to fix this
time for a new topic, right? @fiftyfourthparallel

While it’s nice that you’re making sure threads don’t get overwhelmed with digressions, you should also consider what would happen if every digression gets split.

Also, since I’m not the only person with the ability to split posts, nor am I obligated to (though I do enjoy helping the community via other means), I do not appreciate being personally pinged to split posts at this frequency. I doubt others would be thrilled either.

What you’re doing is arguably good, but it’s best to let others work at their pace and discretion.

just see the list of trust level 4 user and you always the most recently active user

Not sure what you are asking. Why would that be a security issue?

copy of debian-10-minimal that I plan to upgrade to deb 11 minimal

That’s exactly what I did. The only issue I encountered was the change of the repo URL for the security updates. It’s all documented on the Qubes OS website. Did you try it like that?

[user@dom0 ~]$ qvm-clone debian-10 debian-11
[user@dom0 ~]$ qvm-run -a debian-11 gnome-terminal
[user@debian-<new> ~]$ sudo sed -i 's/buster/bullseye/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
[user@debian-<new> ~]$ sudo sed -i 's/debian-security bullseye\/updates/debian-security bullseye-security/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
[user@debian-<new> ~]$ sudo sed -i 's/buster/bullseye/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/qubes-r4.list
[user@debian-<new> ~]$ sudo apt update
[user@debian-<new> ~]$ sudo apt upgrade
[user@debian-<new> ~]$ sudo apt dist-upgrade
[user@dom0 ~]$ qvm-shutdown debian-11

Obviously in a minimal template you would use xterm instead of gnome-terminal
