Qubes won't open, stuck at loading after passphrase

I had stopped using Qubes for a couple of months and now booted it up again. It is installed on a portable SSD. At first, it booted fine, but could not connect to the internet. Then it got stuck and unresponsive to any input. I shut it down, and now when trying to turn it on again I get to the boot menu, input my disk encryption passphrase as usual, but it does not ever load. It gets stuck 3/4 ways through the small loading bar at the bottom.

Any help would be appreciated. I have important files and would prefer not to reinstall.

Adding qubes.skip_autostart to the grub menu fixed the issue of Qubes not loading past disk encryption.

But there is still no internet connection. I use ethernet.

You can try temporarily changing your system qubes’ TemplateVM, restart your device, and see if that resolves your issue.

@FranklyFlawless Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this a few times and will continue to try with different templates.

After some more testing, I realized I do have an internet connection through sys-firewall & sys-net, but not through my VPN qube or sys-whonix. Sys-whonix does seem to be able to access the internet sometimes but extremely slowly and inconsistently.
