btw Qubes 4.2.4 installer can start the graphical installer just fine on this machine
sorry for the noise. today it switches to graphics just fine also with 4.3rc2 installer.
it even has the cec.ko kernel module loaded (not in the installer's filesystem, so probably from initramfs).
I had let it verify the install media, so I guess it is just the hardware acting funny.

modern hardware can be "interesting":
For my desktop PC I have an onboard network card that Qubes OS could not use if I had booted Windows before. Even a "reset" would not fix it, only a power cycle. However I think this was fixed some time ago.
