Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had made a thread to compare baremetal vs Qubes performance.
Feel free to link it if it exists.
Also, I will add more benchmarks. Starting with Geekbench since it was the first result and I didn’t mind since it runs into a VM.(running non-open source otherwise is never a good idea).
I don’t have any affiliations or links to Geekbench and would gladly run other benchmarks per suggestions here.
Feel free to bench with whatever you want, the more different, benchmarks the more precise result.
I will start:
Baseline
Fedora, CPU governor set to performance Turbo Boost enabled, min/max freq set
4.3.0-RC4, Xen 4.19 Intel Ultra 2 Desktop(Arrow Lake)
all threads and 32GB ram given to a Fedora VM
xenpm set to max CPU freq, Turbo Boost enabled
geekbench6
single core 85% of baremetal
multicore 90% of baremetal
(Note: No SMT since the Ultra 2 don’t have Hyper Threading)
Note: I will add the exact Linux Kernels used.
I think a comparison of Zen 5(Ryzen 7XXX and 9XXX) and Intel 13/14 gen would be very beneficial as to recommend people what to buy.
Personally before getting my hardware I compared only baremetal benchmarks which I think is not ideal.
It would also be interesting to compare performance on the AMD X3D models, to see if the extra cache gives any meaningful difference. Of course feel free to post whatever hardware you have, it would create an interesting chart of how performance efficiency changes versus generation.
Also, if anyone is doing GPU tests, feel free to post too.
