Hello, the Raspberry Pi 5 16GB is now available for the consumer market. Is it possible to use Qubes OS with it? It can support an M.2 NVMe HDD using the Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+. I think it is very cool to have a Raspberry system in the pocket to have an autonomous security desktop system. Best regards!
raspi has been a badly designed platform that uses erverything via usb bridges which is bad for I/O bandwidth.
Look at nvidia orin and you see arm with virtualization capabilities enough RAM for grown ups.
So please if there is a Qubes for ARM, then do it for the NVIDIA ORIN AGX which is a nice pocket super computer.
" Jetson AGX Orin Series
Jetson AGX Orin modules deliver up to 275 TOPS of AI performance with power configurable between 15W and 60W. This gives you up to 8X the performance of Jetson AGX Xavier™ in the same compact form factor. Jetson AGX Orin is available in 64GB, 32GB, and Industrial versions."
We use real hardware with I/O power. And also unfortunately ARM is the wrong arch.
my old workstation has pcie 2.0 and 4 or 8 lanes pcie per slot, not 1x lane in total
" PCIe 2.0 x1 interface for fast peripherals" cant use pcie bifurcation or a pcie switch/b ridge here
Others have better HW with pcie4 or5.
Graphics is not part of the game here as we only show some windows of text and graphics. Any 64MB+ Graphicsboard should be enough for qubes so having some old cad graphics with 16 lanes is not important here, it just looks good and provides crisp DP output with high resolution on 4 screens like a bloomberg terminal …
If there is qubes for ARM, I would like to see it with NVIDIA ORIN AGX or newer industrial computing module as it is a pocket “supercomputer” with 64GB RAM and enough powerful CPU cores with virtualization support, according to tech doc. The tensor and cuda stuff can not be used with qubes, which is a bit bad for the toy which loves its customized nvidia ubuntu.
