Qubes OS Installation Issues on Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 12

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to install Qubes OS (R4.2.1) on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12, but I’m running into issues where the system won’t load properly. It seems like there might be compatibility problems with the latest hardware.

The error: dracut-cmdline[1328]: Warning: USB in dom0 is not restricted. Consider rd.qubes.hide_all_usb or usbcore.authorized_default=0.

System Specs:
• CPU: Intel 13th/14th Gen
• GPU: Intel Iris Xe / Arc
• RAM: 16GB+
• BIOS: Latest version

Issues Encountered:

• The installer doesn’t fully load or freezes.
• I get the following error message.
• Possible driver issues with Intel’s newer integrated graphics.
• Some reports of Qubes not recognizing certain ThinkPad hardware.

What I’ve Tried:
• Disabled Secure Boot in BIOS.
• Enabled VT-x, VT-d, and IOMMU for virtualization.
• Tried kernel parameters like iommu=soft and nouveau.modeset=0.
• Used a different USB drive and DD-mode for flashing.

Has anyone successfully installed Qubes OS on this model? Any known workarounds or patches for newer ThinkPads? Appreciate any help!

Thanks!

4.2.1 is a year old, is there a reason you are installing it instead of 4.2.4 ? If I was running a newer computer I’d def want the latest install due to driver and kernel issues

I have the same laptop and I can install qubes 4.2.4 with no issues. Just have to use kernel latest and make sure to use fedora for my sys-net to get wifi working.
