Qubes OS and Libreboot on a Lenovo thinkpad t500

Hello Qubes Users,

I just got my Lenovo thinkpad t500 Flashed with libreboot and I’ve been trying to install QubeOS.

Unfortunately, I don’t have enough RAM. The thinkpad has 4gb of ram! I heard 16gb is a minimum requirement for Qubes?

If I purchase a larger RAM stick and upgrade my laptop, would it install then?

Is their a ‘light’ version of qubesOS that might install?

When I try to install, I get a ‘out of memory’ error come up on libreboot.

Thanks,

I don’t think there is a laptop that supports both Libreboot and the current Qubes OS. In particular, your CPU most likely doesn’t have the required hardware virtualization features.

(16GB is not necessary, but if you want to have smooth experience, it’s probably good to have at least this much.)

You are probably out of luck. The last time someone tried this was with
R2B3 and with only partial success:

Ok. I see.

well, what do you think is the next best option for a privacy focused linux version apart from Qubes?

I just got TAILS. Looks good so far, am using for anonymous browsing.

Sorry, @Stardancer, we try to keep the forum Qubes-focused. For questions like these I would urge you ask it on the PrivacyTools.io forum or, when you’ve been using the forum for quite a while you can also use our internal “general security and privacy” category.
