Hi, I did an update in dom0 after the update was completed I saw that some VMs weren’t able to update with an error message. (Got empty response from qubesd) and another Qubes wasn’t able to start. So I restarted the entire system and nothing worked. I needed to use an older kernel in order to get p…

Hi stellar_vortex_34 When I install Qubes OS, I usually go for automated partitioning – so 100% of the space on my drive is used by Qubes – so I have to “reclaim space” when I do a new installation .. and thus I delete all data on the machine. A qick’n’dirty way to salvage some files, would be: R…

Is your system set up to do updates over Tor? that, apparently hung my system. I did a re-install from USB.

Please report the following: sudo journalctl -xeu qubesd You won’t be able to copy the file as qubesd seems to not be working for you, but you can either screenshot or video record scrolling the journal.

As you can see in the logs, qrexec-daemon doesn’t start. “Kann die Datei nicht ausführen” means “cannot execute file.” [Qubesd logs 1] [Qubesd logs 2] The last line repeats itself for every vm on the system so I only showed one line of that. [Qrexec log] [Executing qrexec error] When I tri…

Hi stellar_vortex_34 – and welcome to the forum. Can you share the output of: file /usr/sbin/qrexec-daemon and rpm -qf /usr/sbin/qrexec-daemon from the dom0 terminal?

Sure: [qrexec-daemon file info]

Hi stellar_vortex_34 I have: user@dom0:~$ file /usr/sbin/qrexec-daemon /usr/sbin/qrexec-daemon: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, BuildID[sha1]=ec00b963d5535a4053c7f58da78381d35771122d, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, stripp…

So I copied /usr/sbin/qrexec-daemon on a stick from a working machine, however, if I attach the stick after I detached the USB controllers from sys-usb, I can’t copy the program from the stick. But deleting qrexec worked with: sudo rm /usr/sbin/qrexec-daemon lsusb shows the stick but it doesn’t ap…

Hi stellar_vortex_34 I’m lazy and would boot from Live Distro (or PXE) and dump the file on the /boot/ filesystem for Qubes OS .. and then fetch it from the boot’ed Qubes machine later ..

I entered the recovery shell of Heads (probably also works on live systems) and followed these steps: Mounted the USB stick: mount-usb.sh Mounted the bootloader: mount -o remount,rw /boot Copied the file to the bootloader: cp /media/qrexec-client /boot/ Pressed the power button because I didn’t …
