Qubes 4.2.4 Install Hangs While Qube 4.2.4 w/ latest Kernel Proceeds

Am attempting to re-install Qubes 4.2.4 on a Qubes-certified NovaCustom V56 laptop with HEADS firmware after encountering issues following first install.

When I select BOOT FROM USB option in HEADS firmware I see the Qubes Installer options which include among other options, install Qubes 4.2.4 and Install Qubes 4.2.4 with Latest Kernel.

Whenever I select “Install Qubes 4.2.4” the installation always hangs.

If I select “Install Qubes 4.2.4 w Latest Kernel” the Qubes installer comes up.

I’m at a loss as to why the former should hang and fail while the latter will run.

Any suggestions welcome.

The same thing happened to me earlier this month (I don’t use HEADS, fwiw):

Why “kernel latest” option is needed to install? I guess because the laptop must have some hardware that’s only supported by that kernel.

Yes, it is normal for recent hardware. Even the HCL entries for Novacustom V56 suggest that a recent kernel is necessary… Probably it will not be necessary in future installers.
