Is it enough to install this software once or do I have to install it more often when there is a new Dom0 update?
Hi Melanie.
The label creator/manager should work if installed once and you do not need to anything afterwards. The effects are more complex. It should be enough to install once. But Appmenu effects needs updating after you update software within the template.
I am planning to make this an audited community project with proper rpm installers for easy installation. Hopefully will submit it for review before year end. I have been busy working with core team on other projects.
Is there any method to implement to launch application in workspace like 3 on startup and other on workspace 4 in current qubes os 4.2 without installing any additional software in dom0
No. I purposed to write a feature for this. But it is not approved (yet):
Hello,
when is the new revised menu update coming, this year 2024?
Can anyone tell me the date yet?
Because I would really like to have something like that.
Oh great, I would also be very interested in having something like this on my computer. When will it be available as an update without having to install it myself?
I have been very busy recently and I had very little time to work on Qubes OS related developments. I am not fully certain about the submission (for review) date.
How do you do?
I would be very interested to know what the status is and when it will continue. So that you can carry out an automatic installation.
Will this be included in Qubes 4.3?
You already have an answer from @alimirjamali and you can check the history of the repo:
This will give you the answer (which is: “no”).
Sorry for my delay on posting the project status update. Here are some details:
- This project is still live and ongoing. It is my personal passion.
- During the past few months, I have been working with the core team on various projects (e.g. this one). While many of them are not 100% related to this specific forum thread, building a mutual understanding is an absolutely essential part of contribution to any software project. It is necessary to get used to the existing workflow, letting the core devs to know you and learn your programming strengths and weaknesses. In a nutshell, you do not crash the party uninvited and show up with your thousands line of code and expect it to be reviewed.
- I submitted some patches to Qubes Core which are directly related to this specific project. For example the issue of restoring backup of qubes with custom labels (created with
qubes-labels-tt
) is fixed here. Those qubes will be reverted to red label if you do not create the exact label on target restoring machine. Related Github issue:
Allow users to restore backup of qubes with custom labels on new systems · Issue #9781 · QubesOS/qubes-issues · GitHub - I discussed many issues related to the project with core team members and finalized the overall design on some pending matters.
Custom labels creation tool might not be an integral part of Qubes OS 4.3. But there is a high probiblity for it to be a part of contribution repository.
Is there a possibility to work together with the Qubes programmer on site? If so, where, in Germany?
In general or on this issue?
If you want to have any discussion with many of the Qubes OS developers, I believe they will have their usual yearly summit around September or October. Which usually takes place in Berlin.
