Option to Have Menu Disappear if Mouse Button Not Held

I find it annoying that if I press the Q button, then let go of the mouse, that the button does not disappear.

This is especially annoying when I assign my Windows Key to the Q. I want to be able to just hold down the Windows Key, find what I want in Q, and then unhold the Q key and have the menu disappear again automatically.

Is there some parameter I can change or command I can type to make the panel respond differently?

I’m sorry but I don’t understand what you are doing and what the problem is.

So, in a Windows qube, you assigned the “super / win” key to Q ? From there, I’m a bit lost.

Side note, no offence, this made me think about xkcd: Workflow

I think @wmrom2 is talking about the Qubes app menu? If I’m correct, it doesn’t seem to be coherent with the mainstream way to use menus?

The windows key is on the keyboard? If so, look for Xfce shortcuts. But I’m not even sure it will be easy to do.

Oh, so the question is “How to stop Qubes menu when the mouse cursor lose focus of it” ?

You’ve ignored the link to the Super key -

I never presume to speak for the Qubes team. When I comment in the Forum I speak for myself.

I assign this

gdbus call --session --dest org.qubesos.appmenu --object-path "/org/qubesos/appmenu" --method org.freedesktop.Application.Activate "{}"

to the stupid Windows icon

then I press it and it opens Q and I can’t get the Q to easily go away just by unholding it or pressing Q again

this is in contrast to Gnome. In Gnome, I hold down the stupid Windows key and I can select stuff, I let go and it goes away

This also happens with all menus in the xfce bar at the top and it’s annoying and counter-intuitive: clicking once leaves all the menus open that are in that xfce bar, like on the network icon, if I click it, the menus are exposed, they don’t go away once I move my mouse to something else.

It’s annoying.

But just for this particular usecase, is there a way to assign “gdbus call --session --dest org.qubesos.appmenu --object-path “/org/qubesos/appmenu” --method org.freedesktop.Application.Activate “{}”” to windows key but modify it so it only shows the Q stuff when held down?

also, I did follow that link and yes, the cartoon does describe me
