Interesting points:

  • 39:20 into the video, the interviewer expresses frustration over bad experience on trying KDE. Also they have tried GNOME (documentation should explicitly emphasize that GNOME is not supported at all). The interviewee has expressed that most of the available documentation refers to the default XFCE desktop. This shows KDE docs could be improved.
  • 41:45 into the video, the interviewer mentions:

Well, it is this weird overlap, right? Because Qubes is such an interesting operating system; because on one hand, it is labled and advertised as hardcore security operating system. And if you’re going with that branding, why do visuals matter? But the more I was reading online and going through documentation and troubleshooting, and going through forums, the more I realized, I don’t know what the ratios are, but it seemed that almost 50-50 reading through things, there’s a lot of people that didn’t care about security features. They just cared about the usability because they’re able to separate work and personal life easily on their devices because everything’s compartmentalized by default. And they can setup two different VPNs super easily. They can easily tunnel one browser one direction. And so, from usability perspective, I think those people would care about the visuals.

p.s.: As someone who started using Qubes OS for more or less the reasons mentioned by the interviewer, I believe interviewer has raised very valid and excellent points.

I think he is right, I always thought it was a shame the default theme of Qubes OS is a lot worse than any other Linux desktop. Not only does the desktop look worse, but it’s extremely difficult/time-consuming to fully customize the desktop.

We ship with UPS and in fact, that goes pretty smooth

They ship only with UPS and paypal banned for orders outside of Europe, so their shipping and payment policy should be improved.

I’m personally had a government agency visit as part of delivery for my Qubes certified laptop…
So, they talk about customer privacy, while UPS is deeply integrated with law enforcement in many countries and should be consider as threat for customer privacy.

How can the shipping situation be improved otherwise?

Offer at less 3 international courier services options for customer choose and allow payment via paypal from more regions.

100%. This has been one of my biggest frustrations with Qubes.

Why is this in All around Qubes? This seems to be about Qubes and the certified hardware provider. I moved it to General Discussion.
