I just set up my qubes on my laptop with usb and want to start whonix on it, but whenever i do it says it’s starting then does nothing. Nothing pops up . I really have no idea on how any of this works I just followed the instructions on the guides and want to start whonix now but nothing is happening.

By “start whonix” do you mean you’re trying to start sys-whonix qube or some Whonix Workstation qube e.g. anon-whonix qube?

yes i want to start it to where it starts the actual whonix im not sure which one thatd be, ive tried running all whonix apps and templates nothing works . Yes sys whonix is running

So you mean you can’t start any apps in whonix-workstation-17 template
or any app qube based on this template (e.g. anon-whonix, whonix-workstatin-17-dvm)?
Are you able to open terminal in sys-whonix?
Did you install Qubes OS on USB disk?
What’s the size of your USB disk?
Did you use the whole disk for Qubes OS?
Maybe there was not enough space on the disk and there was not enough free space to install whonix-workstation-17 template so it wasn’t installed properly.
i put it on usb then when it was on the menu for where to install i put my laptop drive and reclaimed space

I’m not sure what’s the issue with your whonix-workstation-17 template.
Try to reinstall the whonix-workstation-17 template using the Qubes Template Manager GUI tool (Q menu → gear icon → Qubes Tools → Qubes Template Manager).
Did you test your installation media before installing Qubes OS to make sure that it’s not corrupted?
It’s the default GRUB menu option in the Qubes OS installer:

You can boot from your Qubes OS installation media again and test it without installing to be sure if the installation media is corrupted or not.
If your network is working in Qubes OS then when you open the Qubes Template Manager it’ll take some time to refresh the list of available templates.
When the refresh is finished then it’ll show you the list of available templates there and you need to select the whonix-workstation-17 template from the list and change its “Status” column to “Reinstall” then press Apply button.
Are you saying you are trying to run Qubes like a Live USB of Qubes?
