No USB sound comes through dom0 Qubes fresh install 4.2.4(R4.2)

Hi! Thanks so much for reading (will try to be short) **** Background *** So I just finished a new install and moving up from 4.1. I needed to move because I could never get back ups to work and I’ve read all of the horror stories so I obtained another SSD drive and installed on it. But I couldn’t connect from 4.1 to the 4.2 drive because its simply way out of my league. So I used a windows samba drive to copy my data files from my main VM and reinstalled everything and so far so good,
**** Reason for this post *** but now I have no sound.
Ive read every post about this problem that exists. Ive tried uninstalling pipewire from dom0 and that was a terrible mistake for me. It took me about 2 days to get it back including the hellscape of getting locked out from no usb keyboard and I survived with only a headache.
So now I have all of my usb devices running through sys-usb. I have 2 hdmi audio outs that connect to dom0 and work fine, but the headset and USB speakers get no sound… The headset mic (mic only) works perfect like before. But I get no output to either the headset, or the speakers (usb speakers)… Before in 4.1, the speakers connected to the main dom0 audio mixer, now I do not see them as a selectable output or device configuration option. Yes I do see them in the USB devices drop down (Qubes Devices GUI) and I can attach them to appVM, but nothing happens other than a confirmation of attachment to appVM.
Back in 4.1, I have no problems. I can still boot back into 4.1 and use it. I have seen some complicated options I have not tried yet because they may not be survivable LOL… Such as creating a sys-audio from @neowutran. Maybe when the headache is gone, I can try that, now my eyes are starting to fatigue LOL
I tried, i really tried, i gave it my best. Thanks you so much for reading and for any suggestions, they are all appreciated. Thanks!
Sincerely -Chris

Simplest way to have a temporary fix for you would be to just connect your audio devices to vms that need them.

Check if they are selected as default sound devices in appVM after connecting.

USB speakers aren’t connected to dom0 anymore, you need to connect them to an audiovm or directly to a vm that emanates sound.

This is weird, I’m not sure if microphone and headset drivers can be treated separately. Maybe you’re picking up from some other microphone in dom0?

sys-audio isn’t as hard or complicated as it may look, you totally can figure it out!

Thank You! So I looked for default audio settings within appVM and I cant find any… The USB devices are not an option for default choices in dom0. Nevertheless, pursuing that train of thought was able to get the USB outputs working by selecting monitor output send to USB device within appVM app (obs studio in this case) This will get me by for now while I recuperate and prepare for the audiovm…

You are right! I was observing input mic meters within obs studio app thinking it was running through dom0 because I attached the dom0 mic to the appVM. So the signal I was observing was a direct USB mic signal to appVM thinking it was from dom0. :scream:

so it appears I was imprisoned in a 4.1 operational mentality, thanks for the rescue…
