Netvm sys-firewall-local-network - howto setup access to Local Network

hello,

there are some discussions on the forum about setting up a Local Network access

frankly these are a bit too complicated or confusing

As I was following the directions to have an IPP printer setup
https://forum.qubes-os.org/t/setup-a-wlan-lan-printer-ipp-everywhere/

I am failing to gain access to the printer on the Local Network

As the Tutorial gives this command:

could some body explain in simple terms how to have Local Network access ?

Sorry, for asking this basic question - but, I managed to install a VPN with the forum documents, but not a local network access

thanks,

I guess you defined your VPN qube as default ‘Net qube’.
any qube > vpn > sys-firewall > network
This will route all traffic through the vpn tunnel therefore you cannot access your local network.

You can see and define the ‘Net qube’ in each qube individually, just open the qube ‘Settings’.

Now, if want to access your local LAN you can open i.e. a web-browser in a disposable qube afterwards go to the settings of this disposable qube and set it to sys-firewall, click on ‘Apply’ and try to connect to your router or printer.

thanks @whoami

I have my network setup differently.

The SYS-FIREWALL is first in my configuration:

any qube > sys-firewall > protonvpn > sys-net

Wouldn’t the traffic be filtered before entering the vpn tunnel ?
is this a bad setup ?

I follow your directions and report back.

This way you can have only one vpn for all qubes

thanks for the explanation @KitsuneNoBaka
time to re-arrange this setup
