Qube Manager:

Please provide

  1. all of the qubes names that come stock on Qubes OS as well as
  2. if it is an appvm/dispvm/standalone, etc.
  3. what template it uses
  4. what it uses as net vm
  5. if under the advanced settings it
    a) provides network or
    b) has the disposable template checkmarked (and what the default disposable template would be)
  6. what virtualization mode it uses

All the screenshots for each tab of Qubes OS Global Config for what it should be stock.

I messed quite a lot up. didn’t realize it until now, and just want to start from a cleaner slate given that i didnt back any data up. which i now realize the importance of and will do after if i can sort of restore everything and work from ground up. (complete noob but am learning. I’m just happy i was able to make this account and everything that went into it the way i wanted to! LOL)

If you only need to get back to a clean baseline and you don’t have data to preserve, a reinstall is usually safer than trying to manually recreate every default VM setting. The defaults also depend on version, installed templates and choices during setup, so a static list can be misleading. If you do need to salvage the existing install first, I would start by listing what is custom with qvm-ls, qvm-prefs <qube>, and Global Config screenshots, then compare one item at a time rather than changing several settings at once.

On the other hand, I have also had a case in the past where a documentation page listing all the default configs would have been useful. Maybe a new documentation page could be made.

I have wished for this also, but it seems there could be a few different configurations - depending on the selections made during setup. It also changes with release.

It bothers me not to know how I did my original install, and I hate having to write it out by hand.*

I have looked in /etc and elsewhere for a file with a record of the original installation details, but I did not find one. Maybe it is possible to make one with the installer?

Or maybe there are salt formulas for each aspect of it? Could they make a record? …and could a salt command show what has changed since?
