Moderation Ain't Noise Pollution

Hi all,

Thanks very much to all people involved in this forum.

I am so sad that there is so much “moderation” pollution inside some topics here…

I’d suggest other —better IMO— tactics & methods.

PLUS: Vote for maintaining topics about “not specific to QubesOS but useful for QubesOS users” (in separate categories, if needed) like the one I came from to post my comment here.

It ADDS VALUE to the community as a whole, IMO.

Cheers,

I don’t understand what you are trying to say. Voting for moving the posts would look like the “moderation pollution” to me; I’m glad this is not done here. Also, posts not specific to Qubes are clear in 99% of cases. I wonder if you can link to an example, where this is unclear. Moderators here are volunteers, and they do not have much time. They only enter the topics when something goes wrong.

Hi,

Regarding the second subject in my post above (the “vote”), I am considering the removal of threads, and suggest moving them instead as an alternative.

The criterion would be: “it works in Qubes OS and is useful for Qubes OS users” rather than “it’s very specific to Qubes OS.” (This is a reaction to some conversations I’ve read here—though I might be mistaken about current practices).

Cheers,

I see no moderation pollution. I see off-topic pollution and repeated pretense by off-topic posters that they are a victim of repression, whenever the fact of off topic is being pointed out.

I’d suggest other —better IMO— tactics & methods.

PLUS: Vote for maintaining topics about not specific to QubesOS but useful for QubesOS users (in separate categories, if needed) like the one I came from to post my comment here.

Nobody owes others one’s free time to categorize all kinds of chatter.

It ADDS VALUE to the community as a whole, IMO.

It is the opposite: off-topic reduces the value of a topic-centered community, like this one, by diluting the information.

Nota bene: My post was not (and still is not, and will not be ‘personal’): it is NOT motivated by interactions in any of my threads.

And I do agree with: topic-centered (with empathy).
The aim of my message is, actually, to try to help maintaining that.

Cheers,

PS : ICYMI, we are in a feedback category (and in the appropriate sub-category = forum thanks to a kind moderator who moved it in).

All those posts about moderation and complaints about Discourse “limitations”… only to then vandalize the forum with the same derogatory comment? Well…

I reverted most of the posts to their original content. If you see a two-line post starting with “Narcissistic idiots…” just flag it and I will revert it. Don’t take it personally: the target is obviously the mods here because all of this happened after this decision:

FUD, there is a moderation pandemic in mainstream sites like reddit, Facebook etc NOT in this forum, the mods in here are QUITE lax with the rules to be fair and asking anymore then that would turn this forum into a chaotic mess, either read and respect the forum’s rules or gtfo

Posts like this remind me when government actors create massive problems for the society so politicians can point at it and say “see we have a problem, we need to change the rules”, go back to to that reddit dark net clone where I have seen your writing style before mate, if we allow people like you to propagate however you want then users with actual security needs won’t be able to find any valid info in between

Mods don’t listen to these guys, as you can very well understand THIS IS AN OPERATION designed to manipulate the general qubesos forum dweller who doesn’t know better and doesn’t have time to read through everything, I should also add to this fact that statistically THERE WILL BE a minimal % of users who agree with these posts, by REPOSTING the same thing over and over with different shell accounts they CAN influence the psyche of the average qubes forum reader to slowly over time make them agree with said ideas and make them think its their own original conclusion.

I find previous post directly insults mods’ and “the average qubes forum reader”'s intelligence (“you’re not aware of, but I am”).

Such change would drastically expand the scope of this forum, making things like “Linux kernel tweaks” or “configuring Firefox plugins” on-topic. As I have already said above, the moderators here are volunteers and they intentionally restrict the topics to those directly related to Qubes OS here. Otherwise, with the current moderation resources, it will not be possible to keep this forum clean.

Moreover, the topics like those can already be discussed in a lot of other places on the Internet. There is no reason to repeat them here again. Everything should have its own place.
