Hi, I can’t figure how the posting works on this site and I expect I just made a duplicate of the old post plus the newest test results. Perhaps delete the old post?
You can edit your duplicate post to just the newest test results.
idk but on my mentioned platforms sometimes this error occurred hourly or more often.
But at a time my T480 also went without the issue for a whole week with daily 8h+ usage.
Then it reoccurred.
So I’m not sure whether a single day on stock firmware would be enough to rule that out .
Defective hardware was also my first suspicion but when it happened on different devices I was almost able to rule it out. Glad (under the circumstances) that you have the error too.
If you’re into it enough you could also build coreboot+EDKII/CrabEFI that way you could skip the Qubes install step every time you switch back and forth between stock and custom firmware. For testing purposes of course.
Maybe it’d also be enough to set the stock firmware strictly to “legacy” prior to installing so libreboot picks it up (same effect). But I’m not sure whether this works out never tried actually.
That sounds like what has been happening with mine. I didn’t get the graphics glitch for about 2 days and just after I booted up, ordered a coffee, and logged in, it happened again (an extra freaky graphics glitch).
I have qubes running fine on my other older Librebooted devices so I might have to run Kicksecure on the T480 for a while.
It sounds like plenty of people here run Qubes on T480 with the stock Lenovo BIOS without issues so I don’t know if it is worth flashing back to stock yet again as I am confident the issue isn’t defective hardware components on my laptop.
Hmmmm…
I was just thinking (always dangerous):
If I am not mistaken, all of the Linux distros I have used on machine which have not had the glitch are all desktops running Wayland…
The weird graphics ‘glitch’ when using QubesOS on a Librebooted (26.01rev1) T480 has metamorphosed since my last attempt at using QubesOS on this machine a few weeks ago.
Previously, the device was subject to strange purplish rising horizontal lines and an eventual black screen (requiring reboot) after a short amount of time in every session.
Now, shortly after each new session, there is a quick screen flicker which sometimes appears to show a frame that almost looks like some screensaver image consisting of dark brown and beige squares. Then there is usually a quick black screen that seems to go away after mashing some keys.
So far this glitch is far more manageable (no losing sessions) and less disruptive than what was occurring a few weeks ago and I have been able to continue using QubesOS on this machine.
Has anyone else observed this ‘glitch’?
(lol - it just did a black screen flicker just now - almost like a screenshot)
Qubes release 4.3.2-rc1
BIOS: 26.01rev1 (libreboot)
Xen: 4.19.5
Kernel: 7.2.5-1
CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U
Intel UHD Graphics 620
I found this post Intel Integrated Graphics Troubleshooting by taradiddles and have used the suggestion at the end of the post Intel Integrated Graphics Troubleshooting.
After passing the iommu=no-igfx parameter I have so far not had the weird glitch which usually starts shortly after logging into a session. Will confirm after a bit more time but so far so good…
UPDATE: iommu=no-igfx has solved this issue for me.
Will try to reproduce with time on my hands!
