Jittery video

Your system uses i915 driver which is safe because it works on any intel, but it’s not that good with iris/xe gfx cards.
Sometime installer don’t picks correctly driver for new intel igfx.
You neeed to edit xorg configuration to utilize better driver for your igfx in system.

In dom0 edit file - /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf. It should be this:

Section "Module"
      Load 'glamoregl"
EndSection
Section "Device"
      Identifier "Intel Graphics"
      Driver "modesetting"
EndSection

20-intel.conf does not exist. You suggest to create it with the specific content you shared. Did I understand correctly?

What do you have then in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/?

Just 00.keyboard.conf

@KitsuneNoBaka I created 20-intel.conf and put the text you suggested. Rebooted. Then ran:
lspci -nnk | grep -A 3 -i vga
And still had (no change):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Meteor Lake-P [Intel Graphics]
Subsystem: Lenovo Device
Kernel driver in use: i915
Kernel modules: i915, xe

Could you post /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

I’m not in home to check my logs but it seems good.

Are you using teams in full screen?

Yes. I used Teams in full screen. Something changed but not for the better. Typing was noticeably slow during the video call. There was a typing lag. And the video felt like 5 fps at times. Other times, it felt normal but then with some jitter and split second freezes.

Full screen in browser is always not smooth.
Try full window instead.

@alannis , did you changed default minimum video memory in dom0 features or it’s default (8MB)?
Check it with this command in dom0:

qvm-features dom0

I did not modify Dom0. I’ve been using Qubes for a month. Moved from Mac. have a lot of learning to do.

qvm-features dom0 does not show any memory information.

I feel increasingly unable to use Qubes. Video is jittery with and without 20-intel.conf as you suggested.

What is worse is when I plug in a USB device such as an external camera (and only today, regardless of USB; just the built-in camera), the keyboard input is delayed, and the touchpad is unusable, jittery as described here:

I am not a power user. I just want it for normal and basic office work and MS Teams.

Why ten you’ve chosen QubesOS. It’s not for every one and not for every machine. And it’s users must do a lot of sacrifices to use it.
Wouldn’t it work for you to use Secureblue with Silverblue image (fedora immutable) with containers?

PS: qvm-features dom0 result

and you don’t have gui-videoram-min?

I tried silverblue (not secureblue). Believe or not I was able to find out the method to install software in Qubes but for the live of me I could not install some software in silverblue.

My qvm-features dom0 results. Very different from yours. Strange.

I don’t have gui-videoram-min.

r4.3 I presume from earlier logs

Is there someone that know r4.3 and can attest that it’s no longer needed to set videoram for qubes depending on screen size because it’s set automatically or that default is bigger than 1920x1080 or this feature was moved from qvm-featurtes somewhere?

It might have no impact on jittery video or might have but it could be nice to know about videomemory management in r4.3 anyway.

As for jittery video.
If you post exact machine specs then maybe there is someone that knows some tips and tricks for it to run smoother.
I have Lenovo T14 gen3 intel 11th “U” variant and changing driver from i915 that installer put in my Xorg to modesetting made full screen videos in chrome based browser (Trivalent) semi smooth (4k/60 full screen feels like 15fps).
MP4 files played in MPV are more smooth, panning are still jerky thou.

By the way, this page indicates:

Indicates 90-intel.conf rather than 20-intel.conf
Should I retry your suggestion with 9–intel.conf?

And I do use an external screen with higher resolution. I guess this means i need to figure out how to modify gui-videoram-min

Yes. What “higher resolution” exactly do you use?
