Issues switching to fedora-42 template

Switching default-dvm to the latest fedora-42 template isn’t working with the docs I had, nor those currently on the Qubes docs, nor by what else I found on the web. If you updated default-dvm from fedora-41-xfce to fedora-42-xfce please let me know how you did that.

I’ve been using it in testing for weeks, works great!

Same here.

@quantum

Did you use “Qubes Template Switcher” from the tools menu? Please write down, what you did exactly following what guides.

Yes, but that did not work as default-dvm in use.

Also tried what was in the docs at these two sites and they did not work:

And went on the web to followed another process here and that did not work:

Want to know how has done this successfully and not speculate.

Did You try to stop running qubes and switch templates in Qubes Manager (by hand)?

I’m switching default template to the new Fedora in Qubes OS Global Config as well. Don’t quite remember whether that’s necessary or not.

Of course. Sounds like neither of us have it working.

Anyone who knows how?

By “same here” I meant it’s working fine. (As did switching to 41 before and to 40 before and …)

Did you enable Show internal qubes within Qube Manager (Menu → View)? Maybe it’s default-mgmt-dvm that’s blocking things.

A post was split to a new topic: Issues installing LibreWolf in fedora-42

same here but with the mullvad repos and not just fedora 42 but 41 as well and debian 12

Just did it now. Shut down all running services so nothing but dom0 is running. Then use switcher to move everything using 41, to 42

If I used Debian as my default template that would work, but my default template is fedora-41-xfce.

My issue is that I need sys-usb running to change default-dvm and even when I do that through the command line and it appears successful, when I check it I find it was not. The docs are not correct. Can anyone who is using fedora-41-xfce as the default template write out exactly what commands were used to switch default-dvm from fedora-41-xfce to fedora-42-xfce after confirming it worked?

Well if you haven’t figured it out yet, here is the dom0 command to switch the default-dvm to a new template:

qvm-shutdown --wait --all; qvm-prefs default-dvm template fedora-42-xfce

Could you provide the exact command used in that case?

Indeed!
I would also add " ... ; qvm-start sys-usb" to the command line, just to protect the people using a USB keyboard and mouse from a hard reboot
