I just wanted to know if Firefox 128.9.0esr is the latest version for Qubes OS today? As we see, Firefox is the Extended Support Release.
Might I know where can we check if that version is the latest for Qubes OS?
Qubes Update already cares for that Update?
See the link: How to update | Qubes OS
If so then that command: apt update is not recommended? Interesting, but there are arguments for Qubes OS.
I don’t think the Firefox version is related to Qubes OS, because the version is managed by either Fedora or Debian, depending on the template used to launch Firefox.
I don’t understand the other questions as the docs seem clear enough to me. apt update is not recommended but updates will be managed by the Qube Update tool.
Thanks @parulin for your response. I thought that Qubes Update Tool also cares for updating Firefox… so if not, I just need to upgrade it. Would that be the simplest way on any template: sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get --only-upgrade install firefox?
QubesUpdate – as you wrote – updates your templates. It should see if there are (distribution) updates available. So if firefox-esr is installed in your template and an update is available, QubesUpdate should step in.
Indeed. That is also because of Security reason of Qubes OS, so Firefox with ESR.
And yes, when we want to have the newest version of Firefox, I think this is the best way: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_install-firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions-recommended
Because this one is obsolete? https://wiki.debian.org/Firefox#From_Mozilla_APT_repository_.28recommended_by_Mozilla.29
I assume, after this action, I would have Firefox with the newest version and Firefox ESR in addition, so in parallel way, right?
