Installing a Linux VM in Qubes OS?

  • running it in debug mode together with compatibility mode, normal start up menu, logo then code lines that say ““ok”” then black screen
  • only running in debug mode then just regular mint cinnamon, same thing start up menu and logo then black screen.
  • I have not installed anything in dom-0 or in the qube itself, qube is a standalone empty qube, hvm

I can see that its working, its running but I just dont see anything, its a black screen. Could this have anything to do with drivers or video carts related?

+were can I find the drives in the guest? Im new so sorry if this question seems dumb.

go to the guest location (generally /var/lib/qubes)
Open the root drive.
Delete the SLIM startup files that I think is what you are using in the guest.
That will set it up to go to text only for login.
From there you can do a StartX

This will hopefully provide more insight.

I think that you are facing what I faced a long time ago with Qubes and some things starting up properly.

Mine did close to the same thing, and booting to text, then loading X worked best for me.

I even did this for Qubes.
Resolved a tonne of issues, even removed a few vulnerabilities for people breaking in to the system.

If you have a location, maybe share the guest with me and I can take a peek at what the issue may be?

To do this, you would go to the guest location, then just " tar -zcvf {guestname}.tgz {guestname} "

Then you can easily upload it for download.

Once it’s archived an ls -alh will tell us how large it is for uploading to a secure location.

If interested, let me know. Would be happy to take a squiz at what the issue may be if the above possible resolution doesn’t resolve it.
