Welcome @INeverConsentedSoWhy

I don’t use a standalone HVM, but have you tried manually configuring your network with the “IP,” “Netmask,” “Gateway,” and “virtualDNS” addresses that you can find in the settings of your HVM?

I believe I remember having this problem with Windows’s HVM and that this solution worked.

tried with ip, then was testing the ping -c 3 1.1.1.1 etc not pinging back anything but in fairness right the gateway and virtual dns i didnt do yet but honestly i dont know where to put them im assumin the IPv4 or 6 in the advanced networking settings?

yes it is. in the network-manager configure IPv4 manualy using"IP", “Netmask”, “Gateway” and “Virtual DNS” you have in your sandalone’s settings.

edit: you can disable IPv6 settings.

Make sure you read this
You likely will need to set the netmask to match your situation.

I used,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTgzaOWZ9Po

as to install a different Linux distro (Ubuntu, Fedora 42. EasyOS). to Qubes. Worked for getting Internet going.

Same as what Tezeria suggested. and the numbers IP, netmask, etc. come from the first tab of Settings/for the HVM you installed.

And keep in mind what unman suggested. He is far more knowledgeable/experienced than myself.

This issue might be related.

Does not work on Windows HVM if you select sys-whonix as NetVM.

These official instructions worked before but not anymore on Windows HVM + sys-whonix as NetVM.

But that is not what OP has asked about.

In any case, if instructions that work with work with other
netvm do not work with Whonix then this seems to me to be an
issue with Whonix.
I doubt that the issue is hard to diagnose or fix, but we would need
full details of the IP address of sys-whonix and those set in the HVM
before we could go further. (And confirmation that the Windows HVM can
connect in the clear.)

I wrote you on the main Windows sys-whonix topic, since OP issue is HVM internet general and not sys-whonix specific. But they might be related issues.

tried it manually didnt work, but appriciate your help, is there any setting i should potentially enable? or put the hvm to sys-net instead of firewall?

You havent provided any information for people to help you.

Not sure if it helps much. I created a standalone of Fedora42, the standard download, not the XFCE that Qubes uses.

I fixed the internet connection as described in the you tube video on how to install a Linux Distro to Qubes. Which is, open Settings, on the first tab, has numbers for IP address, Netmask, Gateway, Virtual DNS. I open the internet settings inside the already started Fedora 42, choose IPV4, - Manual, and it allows me to apply those settings.

On the second day. the connection did not work.
When I looked I found the IP address changed on he -qube-Fedora42, first tab. from what I set it to the first day. Maybe because this particular qube-Fedora42 is a clone of the first. I used the new IP address and internet was restored.

I thought somewhere in Qubes, the MAC address was changed. Does Whonix change the IP address with every use?

If OP describes where he got the distro he used o install Whonix, I might try it. and see if I can guess what is happening.
