How to troubleshoot sys usb?

Hello!
I’m new to Qubes and Linux and eager to learn.

I’m having issues with my sys usb qube.
Months ago I reinstalled the default template (official Debian template ) and had no issues. Everything worked as expected.
Suddenly one day, after entering my encryption password, I could not log in after as my keyboard and mouse were unresponsive.
The cursor would blink suggesting I could type but only for a second before immediately freezing in place.
I don’t know what causes the sys usb to crash here.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this (i.e a command to run on dom0 so I can better look up the issue)?

Hello @QubesUser3 and welcome to the forum!

Ok, so this tells us that your keyboard and mouse don’t have hardware issues, but that the passthrough appears to be the problem.

If you can’t log in, then you’ll need to put qubes.skip_autostart at the end of the kernelopts in GRUB before you boot.

This will prevent sys-usb from starting automatically, so that you can at least log in.

Follow this guide if anything is unclear:

Determining the cause at this stage is difficult because of the lack of information, so once you are able to use the keyboard and mouse again, you’ll likely need to either do a bit of digging and trial-and-error experimentation with your sys-usb, or provide us with some logs (with identifiable info redacted, of course).

Hope this helps!
