How to open “Move to other qube”

I just wanted to move a folder with files to another VM, but “Move to other qube” does not open in Thunar.

Who can tell me why “Move to other qube” is not working?

How can I get “Move to other qube” to open again?

Do you use a minimal template? Is the qubes-core-agent-thunar package installed?

No, I always use xfce templates.
Yes, “qubes-core-agent-thunar” is installed!

Do you trying it in dom0? If yes it wont work there.
In dom0 you need to do it in terminal - in Thunar chose Open terminal here (file to copy ~/Desktop/test.txt):

qvm-copy-to-vm appVM-personal ~/Desktop/test.txt

As it stands, moving the order to another VM Qube does not appear to work.

qvm-copy  ~/Desktop/test.txt

do you have a popup to choose a desttination vm?

I would like to move the folder

  • Tools

from this AppVM

  • personal-office

to this AppVM

  • personal-workshop

Try in terminal with qvm-copy - it could print some interesting errors

Open a terminal where you have your forlder “Tools” then:

qvm-copy Tools

A window will popup, select “personal-workshop” in the list to send it in this vm.
Your folder “Tools” will be send to ~/QubesIncoming/personal-office/

As it stands, it cannot be moved, unlike the other previous folders that I was able to move to another AppVM Qube.

With your veiled description and lack of any hard evidence in form of terminal text, we don’t know whats going on and how to help you.

$ qvm-copy ~/Desktop/test.txt

Did you try with debian templates for personal-office?

$ qvm-copy ~/Desktop/test-folder
qfile-agent: Fatal error: File copy: "No space left on device; Last file: test-folder/test-03.bin" (error type: No space left on device)

Is there some reason why you are not providing any details?
If it helps:

  1. Have you opened a terminal in the qube?
  2. Have you run the command qvm-move Tools?
  3. Did a qube selector dialog appear?
    1. If so, were you able to select personal-workshop?
    2. What output did you see in the terminal window?
    3. If not, what output did you see in the terminal window?

Also:

  1. Open a terminal in personal-office
  2. run qvm-copy-to-vm personal-workshop Tools
  3. Tell us exactly what happens:
    1. If a qube selector dialog appears.
      2 If there is any output in the terminal windows,and what that output says

It should work normally. Select the folder in Thunar, then go to File - Move to other qube, and enter the desired AppVM in Target. I’ve had this problem several times in the past and now again.

Since you mention the Qube selection dialog box, I have also had this problem in the past where it did not open.

Is there any specific information about when the Qube selection dialog box opens and when it does not?

At that time, I had to transfer my folder and files to a USB stick and then assign them individually to the AppVM, which is very cumbersome.

It is VERY difficult to help you when you give only hints as to what
your problem is.

I provided you with a number of simple questions for you to answer.
Please work through those and provide answers to them.
If you do not, I can only assume that you are trolling here and wasting
other users time.

I was close to this viewpoint this morning, although I know that troubleshooting can appear like magic, and the reasoning behind the questions is not clear to everyone…

Did you open a terminal in Qube?

  • Yes, I had opened it last time.

Did you execute the qvm-move Tools command?

  • I did that last time too.

Did a Qube selection dialog box appear?

  • No, that didn’t happen last time, there was nothing to see.

If so, were you able to select a personal workshop?

  • No, I couldn’t.

What output did you see in the terminal window?

  • I didn’t see anything and didn’t notice any changes.

If not, what output did you see in the terminal window?

  • I don’t remember, because I deleted everything on my end.

  • I only noticed that I had to re-enter my phone number in Telegram.

Otherwise, I didn’t notice anything negative when I removed this very large amount of data from my system.

Also:

Open a terminal in your personal office.

Yes, I did that last.

Run qvm-copy-to-vm personal-workshop Tools.

Tell us exactly what happens:

When a Qube selection dialog box appears.

  • No Qube selection dialog box appeared (image, dialog box)

If there is output in the terminal window, tell us what it says.

I’m not very familiar with Qubes yet. Since I was under time pressure at the time, I removed it, thinking that the damage caused by removing it completely would not be that great.
