Hi, I’m Dheeraj Sudan from the UK. I’m a software developer and also run a business with my wife Meenu Hinduja. I’m planning to install Qubes OS on my laptop, but I want to make sure I do it correctly and avoid common issues. I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions from those with experience.
What computer worked for some, and did not work. Or needed intervention by install person.
Qubes is designed to work as the only OS on a computer. Attempting things like dual boot, can become problematic. Dual boot is surely less secure.
Some folks have issues which eventually trace back to how they created the Install USB… My feeling being, use a USB that is fast enough, USB 3, 3.2 works for me. Qubes install image is over 8 GB.
Maybe not necessary though. I do a bunch of time wasting things that probably don’t improve the odds of the Qubes install working. Like blanking over the USB before writing Qubes to it. Use Linux to create the install USB, and then use “Fedora Media Writer” to write the Install USB.
Impossible! Cause you first have to learn to work with QubesOS. So best practise always is to run Qubes on a different hardware and slowly moving over to there from wherever you come from.
There are so many errors and faults a person will do before becoming a Qubes user, who exactly will know, what the system is doing behind.
You’ll learn this - no question, but it all takes time and the best thing is, to have a different device - a playground you can run even to make faults - reset the system and trying new…
