Fresh installation sys-firewall reset PCI device error at the end

Hi, I did fresh install of Qubes 4.1 with virtualization enabled.

At the end of the installation I got an error(?) at the end. [ I did not pasted the exact text, but it is the same as the one below, with probably different pci device number ]

[’/usr/bin/qvm-start’ ‘sys-firewall’] failed:
stdout: “”
stderr: "Start failed: internal error: Unable to reset PCI device 0000:03:00.1:
internal error: Active 0000:03:00.0 devices on bus with 0000:03:00.1, not
doing bus reset. see /var/log/libvirt/libxl-driver.log

Checked the log, but there was nothing there.

Questions:

  1. Does anyone know what is the problem and how to fix it?
  2. How to see thte log from the installation?

What is the problem exactly?
You can’t boot Qubes after installation?
You can boot but network is not working?

In /var/log/anaconda in dom0.

Thank you, for the quick reply!

I’m not of the entirety of the situation, but as of now I see that when I try to start one of the default qubes (personal, untrusted) it says “qube sys-net has failed to start pci device dom0:00_14.3 does not exist”.

About the logs, I couldn’t find that particular error from the install so I can post it in it’s original form.

Check the devices attached to sys-net.
Q → sys-net → Qubes Settings → Devices
On the left side are devices available to be attached to your qube.
On the right side are devices that will be attached to this qube when it starts.
You need to attach your network adapter to sys-net for network to work.

Seems that during installation you had networking device and after installation you disconnected it from your PC.

I disabled the wifi from my BIOS, that could be it. It was listed as UNKNOWN.

I removed it and left only the Ethernet one, but now it says:

Unable to reset PCI device … no FLR, PM reset or bus reset available.

That device was not disabled on installation, so I’m not sure how that error is connected to the one found during installation. Although information how to fix it is welcomed, of course.

That is fixed, but I noticed that the sys-firewall is not disposable as it was marked when I was installing Qubes.

Also, how to be certain that the error from installation is fixed?

Could you tell me more precise place where I can find that specific error, as the folder has many log files?

You need to check the files content to search for the error.
If you’re sure that the error contained Unable to reset PCI device string, then you can search for this string:
sudo grep -lir "Unable to reset PCI device" /var/log/anaconda
Then if grep will find some files containing this string then you need to open the file and search for this string manually in less/nano/vi/etc.
