I don’t have an interest in selling chewing tobacco . However, assuming for the sake of the argument I did, I would trust a good vpn (with proper general opsec) enough, assuming the threat model posed by such an activity.
Discussing for the sake of arguments on a wrong premise is barren. If something can get you jailed, then it is illegal, being gay or selling chewing tobacco.
So, we need valid premise if it is to be discussed to which is better to trust…
