Fedora 43 template?

I’ve noticed that the fedora-43 template is available in the qubes-templates-itl repository instead of the testing repository.

However, there has been no official announcement about the Fedora 43 template being released to stable.

If it’s still considered a testing package, why is it in the stable repo instead of testing?

If it has been released to stable, why was there no announcement?

Hmm, assume it’s -at least- stable now, but status still is “before announcement”. Speaking from me - no problems seen here with 43 (for my stuff). I immediately tried 43 after the 4.3 upgrade/fresh install (on my both machines) and dropped 42.

I’ve been using it for around a month with no issues whatsoever.

Dito.

Hm, the issue for the Fedora 43 template (#10102) currently has only the first subtask (out of 7) completed, and the issue hasn’t been updated since 2026-01-04, which is the same date as the qubes-template-fedora-43-* packages in https://yum.qubes-os.org/r4.3/templates-itl/rpm/.

It looks like the template still at least needs to go through testing first, so I think the packages may have accidentally been uploaded to stable instead of testing. (See below for update.)

The templates did spend 6 days in the testing repo before @marmarek stabilized them:

Okay, looks like it was not an accident after all, and the templates were intentionally moved to the stable repo. We’ll publish an official announcement about their availability soon.

I’ve been using Fedora 43 for a few months now and I have no major complaints. However, the Fedora Settings menu is not launching, so I can’t change the theme to dark, which is annoying.
Was there a workaround for that?

Works fine over here. What do you get when you do some xfce4-appearance-settings in the terminal of that Qube using the fedora-43-xfce template?

It just freezes for a few secs and exits. No errors. I assumed it was because it’s a testing template, but it looks like a me problem. I’ll look into it now that I know. I don’t want to hijack the post to troubleshoot.

Thanks for pointing that out.
