I’m new to qubes os. Does anybody point me to the right direction of how to create a standalone vm inside an external usb drive?

If I understand you have your main Qubes system on one drive and want to
create a new standalone on a different external drive.
To do this, create a new pool on the external drive - this is detailed
here
That page should give you enough information to set up a storage pool on
the external drive - you use it when creating the standalone by
specifying the pool to use: qvm-create--standalone -P POOL_TO_USE ...
