External Monitor No Longer Detected After Disconnection

Hi,

I’m having an issue where my external monitor works fine at first, but once it’s disconnected I can’t reconnect it without rebooting. Any suggestions for how I should debug this

Thank you.

You can start by providing hardware information for the monitor, the cable being used, and the specified port. If you have other available video output ports, try using them instead and see if the issue is reproducible across them or not.

As best I can tell, this happens on every external monitor I use and if I use usb-c or hdmi connection. But I’m using a Framework 13 intel gen 13 laptop so the only connections available are thunderbolt.

Hi,
Okay I have some new information. Previously I thought I had to reboot to get the external monitor working again, Today I realized that if I log out and log back in, the external monitor will start working. Does this suggest that maybe it’s a xfce issue? I’m using fedora-37-xfce template for my sys-net (which handles usb too - not sure if that appvm is implicated for usb-c display or not).

Maybe, but your Fedora template is quite outdated. You should rebase your system qubes with the latest supported Fedora (currently 41) using the documentation instructions:
