External monitor in addition to laptop screen

Hello,

today I wanted to work with my laptop and an external screen. Laptop started, hdmi cable plugged in and dom-0 display manager started:

  • the mirror displays option is off and grey.
  • nevertheless both screens show the same display.
  • Using the identifying screen option in advance, both screens show the name of the external screen.

How can I configure to use my external screen as a second display (not mirrored)?

If your using XFCE, the default desktop, go to the Q icon on the top left. When you click that, you should see 4 icons in a row just under it. The last of which looks like a flower or gear. Its supposed to be a gear. Click that and you should see “Qubes Tools” “System Settings” and “Other”. Mouse over “System Settings” and you should see a more colorful menu to its right that includes “Display”. Thats what your looking for.

thank you.

yes i found it but the option “mirror displays” is off and grayed out. Based on this I should get a A (Laptop) and B (external screen) setting.

But instead I do get a A (Laptop) and A (external screen) setting - mirrored displays.

And the option it is greyed out, so no way to change it.

Any ideas?

Just tried it, and mines grayed out too. Try dragging the icons of the displays around. You might have to turn the external one on and off again. Mine stayed grayed out the whole time, but was still able to get a non mirrored display.
