@deeplow … what happened here?

I clicked on the link of a post asking for VPN recommendations to see
the OP’s trust level, planing to take it over to “All About Qubes”

There are two posts I can see in my email asking for a VPN
recommendation and someone answering to it. It’s completely gone!

Off-topic, I know – but no split, no hidden, no flagged… just gone
without a trace!?

*** Additional thoughts ***

I also figured out why this is bothering me so much (the whole editing,
deleting, changing business on the forum). It’s not only the annoyance
to the mailing list users … they are just able to recognize it when it
happens.

But in the end, this is a mechanism for censorship. Either by the poster
themselves or by others. Doesn’t matter. The fact that there was
something and now there is nothing and I can’t even see what happened –
I am not cool with that.

You’re right. This was a weird move on my part and I should have explained. This was clearly off-topic from the forum, but the users lacked permission to access the #all-around-qubes category. For this reason I moved it instead to a personal message as the users were already engaged in a conversation and I didn’t wish to move it from under their feet.

Maybe I should have just said. Please keep off-topic out of here and not moved anything into a private message. This innability of replying at random times must be really annoying. Sorry.

I’ll shall refrain from doing this in the future…

p.s. I’ve invited you to that conversation now.

I see what you mean. This is something I was not aware of. From my perspective, this is what I see:

And I assumed others could see something was moved to a private message… Tried now on private browsing and I see nothing. No transparency at all.

So perhaps the same thing happens when I move stuff over onto the All around Qubes

Food for thought on how to best approach this.

That explains it.

All around Qubes

Well, I would see the new thread in “All Around Qubes” but don’t know
what other see through the web interface. Maybe it’s best you post just
a one-line saying what you did and why. That way we don’t have to rely
on discourse to get it right.

Thank you for all you do!

Will try to do that when I’m moving onto a more restricted thing (be that a PM or All around Qubes).

For just splitting threads that have have branched off that would be too overhead. Plus it just shows on another place and as long as you reply via email to the correct message it will land on the right place.
