Dom0 Ladybug on a Leaf Wallpaper Missing from 4.3.0

Hello,

I’m inquiring about a wallpaper that was previously on Qubes 4.2.4 but removed in Qubes version 4.3.0. It was a picture of a ladybug on a leaf located in /usr/share/backgrounds/images/ladybugs.jpg. Out of all the wallpapers that was the only one that was removed in the new version. I tried looking in GitHub - QubesOS/qubes-artwork: Qubes component: artwork but it wasn’t included, even in previous versions. I tried installing the old Fedora 42 template to see if it was still there, but that specific picture isn’t included in templates, despite the fact that every other wallpaper image is included. It seems to be only in dom0 of Qubes 4.2.4. After Re-installing 4.2.4 again I figured I’d just download the image from the internet to get the highest quality version. I looked at the metadata of the image and it says it was taken by Garrett LeSage from RedHat last modified on 09/06/2006. I went on Garrett LeSage | Flickr to find it. I even saw some other images that are used as wallpapers for other distros, but not the ladybug picture. After a while I got tired of looking and I just uploaded the image from 4.2.4 dom0 to my USB and that was it…

But it made me wonder, why was it removed and why is that specific image only in dom0?

It was certainly bundled in Fedora and removed sometimes after. It seems it’s quite low resolution by nowadays standard so I suppose it was removed from the Fedora package. Wild guess

Note that in Qubes OS 4.2, dom0 is based on Fedora 37.

Edit: I checked the file origin, it comes from desktop-backgrounds-basic-37.0.0
