I wonder that the QubesOS developers can makes QubesOS support AMD mainboards?
In what way or ways do you feel that Qubes OS doesn’t support AMD systems?
I search on Qubes Community forum. I noticed that most of the user with AMD laptop, and the others are claiming is not working well.
Can I use AMD-v instead of VT-x?
Yes, and see this message.
Example of a working device from the HCL:
I’m using an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX and I have no issues. I had to disable global c-states in the BIOS but this is an AMD issue and not a QubesOS on AMD issue. Quite a few OSes have issues with AMD c-states.
Thank you for the information. What do you think of Framework Laptop mainboard. It can be support QubesOS?
I have the framework 16. It runs qubes very well.
The Framework Laptop 16 only have AMD, which GPU have? Does not need adjust something in the BIOS? At the moment that I have Framework Laptop 13. I hope Framework Laptop 12 can supported as well.
I have the 7700s dgpu. Nothing needed to be changed in the bios except turning off secure boot. Take a look at the various hcls for the framework devices, it seems that most have no or very few problems
i having hard time to know where to turn off the secure boot in my Framework Laptop 13 (intel Core Ultra 7 165).
In the bios (access by hitting f2 during boot) select the administer secure boot option and disable enforce secure boot
Qubes OS does support AMD:
But there are some caveats about AMD on that page worth reading.
Shouldn’t the question be reversed? AMD (and Intel) should support qubes, or even linux in general, better. Can’t make bread out if stone.
