Does dom0 kernel and kernel version for qubes (in advanced or default menu) need to match?

I’m booting qubes dom0 with an older kernel version but have my qubes on the latest kernel. Everything has been fine but I used USB devices for first time today and they wouldn’t mount to qubes. They show up in the USB selection drop down but when I allocate to a qube they mount and then automatically unmount. If I try to locate them in gparted of the qube the program hangs at scanning.

I switched the sys-usb kernel version to match dom0 version and USB worked again.

I’m curious if kernel 6.6.54 has got USB issues (in addition to Nvidia nouveau issues) or if I supposed to match dom0 kernel version to qubes kernel version. ?

The kernel version inside qubes doesn’t need to match dom0 kernel version.
