Noob question but do qubes colors change permissions like does a red qube access less than a black one. My question is do colors affect anything or do anything except for the visual effect they have?
No.
When you start off with the default install, black is most trusted, and red is least trusted, with colors like yellow and green in between. If memory serves (I have changed things a lot), sys-net is red, and sys-firewall is yellow. That’s because sys-net directly touches the internet and therefore isn’t trusted (qubes is based on the notion that something like that will get hacked), while sys-firewall is slightly more isolated.
There’s absolutely nothing preventing you from changing this–nor will anything stop you from doing inappropriate things with black VMs if you really want to.
If you are truly new to this, I’d advise leaving the color scheme alone for a while. However, the default install doesn’t use orange, purple and gray (unless I have forgotten something), so you can do something with those colors without changing something that already exists.
Got it i used qubes for a while but never spend time on the colors, i just put all qubes red lol.
