Hello there,

I was following the instructions listed here
(“insert qubes doc link here”/doc/pentesting/kali/#katoolin4_0) to create a
kali template vm and ran into the following error for Qubes 4.0

Assume a default configuration for the most part, as I have not done
much tweaking. I’m still a noob per my last post. Anyway I hope we can
help anyone else who runs into the same issue.

Error:

user@kali:~$ git clone github.com/LionSec/katoolin.git
Cloning into ‘katoolin’…
fatal: unable to access ‘"insert github link here"LionSec/katoolin.git/’:
Could not resolve host: pretend it says githubdotcom here

Attempted fixes prior to doing so are as follows:

  1. Attempted to follow instructions listed here. No dice, same error
    https://groups.google.com/g/qubes-users/c/o-EO4QEUqhU/m/TTHO2rULBwAJ

applied the following commands (likely erroneously) based on this post
“insert github link here”/desktop/desktop/issues/4872
git config --global --unset http.proxy
git config --global --unset https.proxy

Please let me know if I accidentally broke something on a templatevm by
doing the above command.

I wanted to avoid breaking compartmentalization but could not figure out
a fix except for temporarily connecting the template vm to sys-firewall
long enough to download katoolin.

What would have been the appropriate way to resolve this error in
templateVMs? Let me know and thank you for your help

I have to sort out being able to post on the google users group at some point. If you are both on here and on the qubes-users google group, thank you for the help you’ve provided me on there. I’ll let you know how it works out. Thank you also to the guys who responded on the github post I made as well. I appreciate all of you. Be well.

Hi @setemeraude!

For some reason I missed this post. So, sorry for the delay. I see where the issue comes from: probably step 6. of this unofficial guide

TemplateVMs do not have internet access – hence the failing to connect to github. So you’ll have to clone it on an AppVM with internet access and copy it the desired TemplateVM.

I just found it may be possible to a simple kali install via the (still testing template). See more bellow:
