i have attempted to reduce power usage and fan activity on a starbook ultra mk vii with a ultra 7 165H cpu by creating a couple new pools and attempting to move all vms to either the 8 E or 2 LPE cores. while i did hit some minor issues, the results in terms of lower power usage and fan noise are good.
since dom0 must remain in Pool-0, i tried to remove all cores except the 2 LPE ones (20 and 21), but i cannot remove cpu 0, a P core, from Pool-0 for whatever reason. i am indeed seeing the issue cited here, where the 3 cpus in Pool-0 (0, 20, 21) now show 0 time spent in C2 and C3 states
i created an “ecores” pool, moved all the E cores to it from Pool-0 (8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15), then migrated all my sys and app vms to it.
i have observed no issues with performance for dom0 or most of my sys and app vms, but viewing videos in a browser, e.g. yt, does benefit from 2+ vcpus.
