Cloning 4.3

Good evening guys,

I am fully 4.3/Fedora43 and LOVING IT! The features changes are great too. It does appear that there is some Opacity with XFCE with my fly-outs. Did the in-place “upgrade” and it went very smooth, and congrats to the devs/team and all the HARD work put in to this !!!

Now to the topic, in Qubes 4.2.0-4.2.4 I could “clone”. Yes I do do backups and it works great as well. But I have some great tweaks and enhancements that I would really not want to go though again building out. So I “clone” and test my “clones” on the same exact hardware. I remove my “LIVE” version and put in place the clone just to confirm launch & login, as things do happen when cloning, and it worked all though 4.2.

Well now on 4.3.0 it does clone, launches & I get to login. But I can’t login, and it appears that “sys-usb” is either missing or broken as I do not have NO mouse & keyboard. Have shut down many times to see “IF” by chance “Magic” would happen and “sys-usb” would appear but the “clone” produces the same results…NO mouse & keyboard. So I put back in my LIVE Qube and continue on wondering…WHAT,WHY OR HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???

I am using Clonezilla v3.3.0-33-amd64

Any ideas or help would be great as I do really want a FULL Backup “CLone”.

THank you all for your time

You have PS/2 port?

Nope, none of the newer computers even have that interface no-more, that is OLD tech that has been removed from newer builds . I have all USB’s on this computer.

Uh, more to the mystery.

I created App clone of Template Fedora 43, to which I added Software, like Librewolf, Mullvad Browser.

I created an App off my new cloned Template.

The added software is not added to my App Qube, not tabs, not there.

I have not extensively looked through possible reasons for this yet. but this point seemed related to the points you raised. If you find the common denominator to that and this.

Like I said when cloning with “Clonezilla v3.3.0-33-amd64”, and selecting DD. I watch and everything is firing off when Clonzilla is executing itself. In fact cloning is done usually in about 20-25 minutes. Its fast!!! DD = nvme to nvme internally. I have 2 nvme bays on the MOBO.

Cloning & testing of my clone is all done on the same hardware, where my LIVE Qube OS lives. I just change them over to test the clone.

Everything firers off on the clone, Qubes loads, login screen comes up…no mouse or keyboard… “sys-usb” is either missing or broken from cloning.

In 4.2.0-4.2.4 cloning, I had no issues. I would do a clone every few weeks just to keep a fully enhanced backup for my tweask & customizations I have done. As I really don’t want to have to rebuild!!

Try to backup and restore as it supported by QubesOS, you can backup such way your xml’s and then restore them with less effort compare to worst case of rebuid your setup.
