Gigbyte Z890M GAMING X
Intel Core Ultra 99 285K
128GB RAM
installed qubes with latest kernel
So each time I installed, I had to uncheck “Use a qube to hold all USB controllers”. If I left that checked, my USB keyboard and mouse would go dark (literally … dark … the red light on the bottom of the mouse would go out), and that was that. I could hard-reset the machine, but it would come up and prompt me to continue but … keyboard/mouse is inactive. Dead end. So I can’t have that checked.
Then once I do get the os booted and logged in, now I discover that the network icon in the upper right corner is red. This kind of stands to reason because, on the Ubuntu install, on the same box, I have to use a netgear wireless USB adapter to access the network. This MB has a realtek RTL8125 driver which must be compiled and built from a script and source code supplied by realtek.
So … now I just am going to try and get a cheap ubiquitous PCI ethernet card, that everyone the world over (including qubes) knows about and supports, bang, out of the box.
Also full disclosure … I am not sure whether or not this MB is defective. Weird stuff has been happening, like ubuntu just freezing dead, and BIOS “boot errors”. Not to mention my ubuntu partition just getting mysteriously whacked. I’ve turned the clock down from 5.4 GHz to 3.7, and it hasn’t seemed to happen since.
MY QUESTION
Does anyone know of a cheap ubiquitous PCI ethernet card, that everyone the world over (including qubes) knows about and supports, bang, out of the box?
