Currently following the Qubes upgrade guide, backed up my previous installation to an external SSD, did a fresh install (all went well) and am now restoring my backup. All qubes have been restored successfully, it’s just now “Extracting data” (around 200GB). Is it safe to assume this will take as long as creating the backup did (10+ hours), or should I worry about the fact that it’s been going for 4-5 hours so far? I can wait, just want to know if it’s normal or reasonable.
The restore process does take some time.
But also, a heads-up: the restore process uses ~/QubesIncoming on dom0 as a working area to hold temporary files. It places hidden directories in there with names like .backup#restore-nkx7zprt. If you move or remove the ~/QubesIncoming directory during the restore, thinking it’s empty, that will cause the restore process to hang indefinitely (ask me how I know…)
