I’m wondering what is considered best practice, and whether dom0 updates contain a risk of system failure. Do others tend to make a backup prior to every dom0 update?
Relatedly, I remember reading on this forum about the idea of manually verifying each dom0 update against an official source. How would one do that?

I never had any problems after updating dom0, but regular backups are always recommended, even if you didn’t update anything in a long time. There can also be a hardware failure, power outage and so on.
Qubes is great at rolling back VM updates, but unfortunately if the computer hangs during a dom0 update (which has happened to me) a reinstall might be needed.
