Regrettably I am having no luck achieving VM passthrough of this card, even with VM-local kernels and standalone VMs. With any kernel configuration I try, the result is the same: at boot, MES(1) failed to respond to msg=SET_HW_RSRC. I have tried various amdgpu kernel arguments suggested elsewhere also. I have tried templates for various distributions, including Ubuntu 24.04, the one that is said to provide most stable support for new AMD GPUs.

However, if I try the specific kernel versions said to fix the bug, or later kernel versions than that, I still see the same error at boot.
One thing I did determine from the Create a Gaming HVM post is that the VGA device and audio device I refer to in my post are in fact in different IOMMU groups. So therefore, I assume, the audio controller does not need to be passed through to the VM along with the VGA device.
At this point I think I must resort to an unvirtualized operating system. If only to remove the confounder. It is possible this newly bought GPU is faulty. But I will return to this forum, and I hope to return to Qubes also, with greater confidence than I feel today.
