I tried it both the key combination and the GUI menu option.
What key combo and which GUI option?
ctrl+alt+l
panel: “user” → “Lock Screen”
This session is seems to work.
Not much of an Xfce user, but just switched over to it, and both are
working for me.
What screen saver/locker are you using?

The default. I didn’t change anything.
What worked for me was
$ xss-lock xflock4
Then, from journalctl
dom0 dbus-daemon[5999]: [session uid=0 pid=5978] Activating service name='ca.desrt.dconf' requested by ':1.3'
I was asked if I want to start it, and eventually
dom0 dbus-daemon[5999]: [session uid=0 pid=5978] Successfully activated service 'ca.desrt.dconf'
,
screenlock
worked again on CTRL+ALT+l/DELETE.
